Ashma McDougall officially files nomination as DLP candidate for Roseau North
“I am excited and grateful, but I also feel an even greater sense of responsibility. I have formally offered myself to serve the people of Roseau North, and I do not take that responsibility lightly,” McDougall said.
Dominica: The Dominica Labour Party candidate Ashma McDougall has officially announced her candidacy for the Roseau North by-election as she completed the process of nomination on August 21, 2026.
McDougall described the occasion as an exciting and deeply meaningful occasion after arriving at the nomination centre at approximately 10 a.m. She also extended her gratitude towards the people of Roseau North, and noted that she feels a sense of responsibility, which she will not take lightly.

She mentioned that she will never forget this moment saying, “Today is a moment I will always remember.”
Ashma thanked the residents for the warmth and encouragement they provide her throughout the constituency.
To every person who welcomed me into their home, stopped to speak with me or took the time to share an idea or concern, I say a heartfelt thank you, she said.
McDougall noted that the conversations with the residents have helped shape her vision for the community and has significantly strengthened her determination to work with them for the development of Roseau North.
During an interview, she listed the record of investments done under the leadership of Dominica Labour Party, noting that Roseau North has been a part of that progress. She said the major projects and infrastructure developments in and around the constituency are creating real possibilities for the people of Roseau North.
Ashma noted, I want our young people, especially, to recognise these opportunities, prepare themselves and find ways to build businesses, careers and a better future from the development taking place around them.
She also highlighted that her vision is for a modern and renewed constituency that includes better roads, stronger communities and meaningful social transformation.
She said measures listed and contained in the 2026–2027 National Budget can provide practical support for households and small businesses across Roseau North.
She further announced that nomination was an important milestone and also a start for the ultimate finish line.
Today, we take a moment to celebrate. From here, we roll up our sleeves and finish the job we have started together, she said.
McDougall lastly noted that she is ready, energised and determined to give the people of Roseau North her very best.
