Jamaica has recorded over 1.7 million tourist arrivals up to the first week of May since the beginning of 2024. These numbers are ahead of the corresponding period in 2023 and comprise over one million stop-over arrivals and over 700,000 cruise passenger arrivals.  The development was announced by the Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism of Jamaica, Delano Seiveright. He said that the data showcases a 4.6 percent of increase for stopover arrivals and a 23 percent increase for cruise passengers.  The release of the figures came after a declaration by the Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett earlier this month that the country’s visitor arrivals has not been impacted negatively by travel advisories from the United States. The numbers clearly show that the travelers are visiting the island nation in huge numbers because of the enhanced tourism experience of Jamaica.  However, on Thursday afternoon, Seiveright noted that there is no dount that this advisory has had an impact with the government continuing to treat the Level 3 US Travel Advisory very seriously which led to several engagements with high ranking United States officials across the State Department, Congress and others.  He further pointed out that many other nations impacted by similar negative travel advisories have also raised concerns. Seiveright stated that in spite of decelerating effects of headwinds created by rising global economic uncertainties, relatively high inflation, as well as interest rates in primary markets, continued difficulties in airlines securing adequate staffing and equipment, the Ministry of Tourism and its partners, continue to effect multipronged actions and initiatives to bolster growth.  As Jamaica remained impact-free from such travel advisories, the Ministry of Tourism is also looking forward to enhancing connectivity through collaborations with Emirates Airlines for the Latin American and Caribbean region.  With new flights to Bogota, Columbia as well as existing routes to Miami, Jamaica and the Caribbean at large are projected to become integral hubs within Emirates’ extensive network.
