St Vincent and the Grenadines: Man shot dead in Rockies as homicides reach 31

St. Vincent and the Grenadines: A man was shot and killed inside a residence in the Rockies community on Thursday night. This brought the number of homicides committed in St Vincent and the Grenadines in 2026 to 31.

The deceased individual has been identified as Akeem Ferdinand, who also goes by the name of "Shaka Boom."

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has issued no official details concerning the shooting incident. It was also confirmed that Ferdinand was released from prison on July 31 after facing charges in connection with a firearm-related case.

The investigations for the shooting are still underway, and authorities are expected to release more information regarding the case soon.

The most recent murder took place after two other fatal cases reported recently. Michael Jackson, a 52-year-old man from Yambou, was killed when he was shot dead by the police during an incident that took place in Mesopotamia on August 4. Police are still investigating this case.

Earlier, on August 1, the body of 35-year-old Clydon Cato of Dickson Village was found in the North Windward area with apparent gunshot wounds. The police have arrested 33-year-old Rhyse Henryman in connection with his murder. He appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Thursday and will be remanded until September 21.

This increase in violent crimes has raised public concerns for safety on social media. One individual said, “This crime rate is getting out of hand now, where is the prime minister and minister of national security, where is the plan you said you have to reduce it, lieday you sleeping man.”

Another person stated, “I can most of the ones that getting kill is those who goes to Jail and come back out.”
