PM Skerrit hails Cable Car Project as game-changer for Dominica's tourism

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit led a visit to the site of a highly anticipated cable car project and hailed it as a significant step forward in enhancing the island's tourism and infrastructure. During the visit, he was accompanied by Tourism Minister Denise Charles; Minister Dr Irving McIntyre; Missi Henderson, Permanent Secretary in Office of the Prime Minister; Lisa Valmond, Permanent Secretary in Dominica Ministry of Tourism, along with the Project Manager Randall Gliege and representatives of ABL Holdings.

PM Skerrit highlighted the meticulous engineering considerations that have gone into this project and stressed the challenges posed by the region's heavy rainfall and soil conditions. He said that the project is designed in a way that will ensure safety and minimal environmental impact.

This project is set to transform access to one of Dominica's natural wonders, which is the Boiling Lake.

He noted, "There are many who have attempted and fallen, you know, a few yards away and never got to actually see it after having worked for three hours and a half. And so this lends itself to the opportunity for everybody, irrespective of your physical circumstance, to be able to enjoy the magnificence of the boiling lake."

He assured us that the developers have been very careful in the construction of this facility to ensure that there is not much of an impact on the beauty of Nature Isle. "And I think they have done an extraordinary job in protection and preservation, respect for the environment, and so on," said PM Skerrit.

In addition to this, PM Roosevelt Skerrit also outlined the significant development projects that are ongoing in the country. He said that Dominica has something amazing happening with the construction of cable cars along with the International Airport, Marina, cruise village, cargo port in Canefield, and the Roseau Enhancement Project.

He further mentioned the geothermal plant, the several hotels that the government has invested in, those that are open and are being constructed, and those to come in the future, as well as the significant number of Dominicans who are taking advantage and registering their properties with Airbnb and TripAdvisor for reservations of the properties, is something extraordinary.

According to the Prime Minister, the cable car project has over 200 Dominicans employed on the site, and as a matter of fact, Dr Skerrit interacted with a large number of people who work there, and while they would like to see the cable car completed, they're hoping that there's a delay in construction because they've been paid well.

"They've been paid about 25% more than what they would have been paid otherwise," outlined Prime Minister Skerrit.

While highlighting the several benefits of the cable car project, the Prime Minister cited that from a Dominican standpoint, he thinks it will allow for more family outings and added, "We really have to get families out of this Netflix and television and YouTube and all of these Nigerian movies that we would like to watch in nights, in daytime, we need to get people out of their homes as families, where you can go and, and be able to interact and socialize and enjoy what Dominica has to offer."
