The 23-year-old Louis has been named in the West Indies squad of 15 members for their Tour of England in July 2024. The Government of the island nation continues to recognise the cricketer as he became the first Kittitian to do so.
On Monday, Louis was invited to the meeting of the Federal Cabinet where the Ministers of Government and other invited ambassadors lauded him on his achievement and vowed the government’s support toward his continued development and growth as a national cricketer.
On the same day, Mikyle Louis was presented with a $10,000 grant from the Sports Ministry that will go towards his preparation for the West Indies tour of England where he will be making debut as part of the regional squad.
Not only this, but the cabinet also honoured him by naming the South Stands at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in his name, allocating a parcel of land to him as well as naming a road in his honour.
Minister of Sports Samal Duggins announced that official ceremonies for these recognitions will take place subsequently. The selection of Louis came after his amazing performance in the 2024 West Indies Championship, where he became the leading run scorer with a total of 682 runs from 14 innings in 7 matches with an average of 48.71.
This impressive score included three centuries with two of them scored during a single match at the historic Warner Park Cricket Stadium. Also, the Kittitian cricketer was one of only three players to score four or more half centuries which showcases his skills and consistency. It is being anticipated that the young cricketer will probably form a new opening partnership with Test Captain Kraigg Brathwaite during the tour of England.
