Prime Minister Philip J Pierre-led Administration has finally ended many years of neglect and hardship for the fishers of this community.
Micoud North is a proud fishing community. As of June 7, 2024, Micoud North fishers will no longer have to endure improvised and unsafe near-shore departures. On Friday, Micoud North fishers are ventured out to sea from a new and permanent jetty facility for the first time in decades.
The Pierre-led Administration delivered for the fishers and people of Micoud North within 36 months of assuming Office in July 2021.
The new Micoud North jetty will serve as a gateway for generations of Micoud North fishers earning a living to feed their families and community.
The unveiling ceremony was joined by PM Pierre and his cabinet colleagues as well as Jeremiah Norbert who is the Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North.
The Prime Minister noted that this long awaited jetty and washroom facility will bring much needed relief to the people of this constituency, particularly the fisherfolk by providing an upgraded working environment for them to earn a living.
“Once again, I congratulate the Hon. Jeremiah Norbert on this “Promise Made, Promise Delivered” project and encourage him to keep serving the people,” said the PM.He further noted that he visited Micoud North back in 2021 and saw the condition of fisheries in this constituency. He also noted, “I know the story behind this jetty all too well. It's etched in my mind. It's going to be there forever.”
A local fisherman also shared his experience and said that the jetty is something that is very important for this community and he feels sorry for the fishermen and added, “For years, they had to be walking up and down without any kind of jetty or anywhere to put the fish which they catch.”
Meanwhile, Minister Norbert noted that he is only going to accept what the people of Micoud deserve, which is quality and standard.
“They cannot be satisfied more than that. We have been waiting for this for more than 50 years, you know.”
As the jetty and the washroom facility were launched, the Minister said that the faces of the fishermen and constituents who finally had their day, who finally saw the actions of a government that cares about them, were lit up with wide smiles.
