Grenada: Two women die in boating accident off Grand Anse Beach during Spicemas 2026

Grenada: Two women have reportedly died in a boating accident off Grand Anse Beach in Grenada on Saturday, 8 August 2026, during the island's Carnival festivities.

According to witnesses, the two women jumped from a vessel together and were struck by the boat's moving propeller. One woman died on the spot while the other was pulled from the water by emergency responders and was rushed to the General Hospital in St George's, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.

The vessel has been identified as the Kayak Princess, a party boat that runs tours and charters out of the Carenage in St George's and is a familiar name on the Carnival cruise circuit.

Its captain has been detained by the authorities. Investigations are underway, and officials have not yet indicated whether formal charges will follow.

Grand Anse has drawn extra scrutiny already this year. In late July, a foreign visitor went missing from the same stretch of beach after entering the water and never returning to shore, triggering a search involving the Coast Guard and dive teams.

Saturday's accident happened during Spicemas, Grenada's annual Carnival, which runs from 1 to 11 August 2026 and pulls large crowds toward boat parties and beach events around St George's, Grand Anse included. Vessels like the Kayak Princess are a fixture of the season, carrying groups of travellers up and down the southern coastline for much of the festival period.

The Royal Grenada Police Force has opened an active investigation into the incident as they officially issued a press release, noting, “The Royal Grenada Police Force is investigating a boating incident which occurred at Grand Anse Beach, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.”

So far, authorities have not yet released the identities of the two women or said whether charges are being considered.
