Trinidad and Tobago was affected by serious weather conditions because of the passage of a tropical wave on Tuesday. There are various reports of flooding from several communities since last ten hours.

At 4 pm on Tuesday, the Meteorological Office reported a cluster of showers that approached eastern Trinidad and caused partly cloudy conditions.

Also, an isolated thunderstorm northwest of Trinidad continued to weaken while moving away from the island. Meanwhile, mostly sunny and hazy conditions are ongoing across Tobago.

Conditions became increasingly hazy and settled into the evening and night across both islands, with the odd shower or two favoring the southern and eastern areas of Trinidad.

During the evening, the Met Office reported ongoing flooding at Little Coora Road, Cumuto as an intense thunderstorm moved across the area while dumping up to 2 inches of rain in an hour. The roadway became temporarily impassable in the vicinity of Cumuto Road at the junction.

In addition to this, street flooding was also reported at Pentecostal Street, El Dorado in the vicinity of the Eastern Main Road during the evening. As intense lightning hit the country, parts of central Trinidad faced power outages in Brickfield, Couva, Freeport, Carapichaima and Waterloo.

After thunderstorm activity, street flooding was ongoing in various parts, including Sangre Chiquito, Superville Flats, and Pasea Road toward the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

While the showers settled during the night, the country experienced a major rainfall throughout the day yesterday with the authorities now working to clear the areas affected by the weather condition.

As the conditions settled across the island, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Office said that the threat of localized flooding has decreased over the last few hours.

The Met Office said that it will continue to monitor the weather activity and will inform the citizens and residents before hand about any type of alerts of weather issues.
