Belize: A 28-year-old woman who met with a tragic road accident on Monday is claiming that a police officer robbed her money. Ana Pineda, a resident of Santa Rosa Village in the Stann Creek District, was driving back home from Placencia in the afternoon when she had a blowout and crashed.
The incident took place just outside Santa Cruz, leaving Pineda knocked unconscious because of the accident. According to the information, her tire got burned, and with the huge amount of heat that came inside the vehicle, the female fainted.
Reportedly, she was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital by a police officer who was passing the area.
After some time, the road accident victim woke up in the hospital but said that she wanted to go home as she wasn’t injured severely. It was said that when she started checking her belongings, she realized that three thousand dollars, her salary for the past month, was missing.
She asked a nurse and learned a police officer had given the hospital staff her ID, which was in her wallet along with her money.
“The police officer from Santa Cruz, she said the police officer had my social security card in his board, which means people in this police officer went through my documents and my personal belongings,” outlined the 28-year-old female.
She further noted, “I had 3000 plus money on my wallet from work. Those were my gratuities from the entire month of working. When I came back, I opened my belongings, and my money was gone.”
Pineda says that she was drinking but was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. She added that she knew her tires were not in the best condition.
Despite this, she says police did not take a statement or request a sample from her to check her blood alcohol level and that she would have willingly complied if they did.
Pineda says a friend had recovered her phone from the Santa Cruz Police Station, but the officers claimed they knew nothing of the money.
