Grenada announces six VAT-free shopping days for August to October 2026

Grenada: A government statement on Tuesday announced six VAT-free shopping days within the next three months, enabling GRENADA’S residents to purchase listed goods and services at zero percent VAT from participating taxpayers registered on the tax rolls.

The VAT-free days will be observed on August 28 and 29, 2026, September 25 and 26, 2026, October 30 and 31, 2026, allowing shoppers to enjoy two VAT-free days in each of the months of August, September, and October 2026.

The announcement of the tax exemption measure comes as the cost of living assistance package, which is budgeted at around EC$18 million, was unveiled by Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall.

The value of the assistance package was announced in July 2026, and it is expected to provide relief to more than 38,000 households in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.

Minister Cornwall stated that the initiatives had been implemented to alleviate households’ burden due to the inflationary pressures generated by the international situation rather than national ones.

In addition to the abovementioned VAT-free days, the Government has also removed the Value Added Tax (VAT) charged on electricity bills for all consumer categories from August 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.

The Government has also maintained the price controls on gasoline, diesel, and kerosene at EC$17 per gallon, along with capped prices of EC$40 for the 20-pound LPG cylinder and EC$350 for the 100-pound cylinder through December 2026.

The Inland Revenue Division published the list of approved businesses for the VAT-free days. Those companies whose names had not appeared on the list but believed they should have been included were requested to file an appeal within the Inland Revenue Division by August 19, 2026.

Consumers had been requested to check the list of participating businesses on the Ministry of Finance’s website to ensure they patronized businesses that had met the requirements and to make the most of the VAT-free days.

The Cost of Living Assistance Programme was announced several months before the Grenadian general elections, and the Government stated that the package demonstrated its commitment to fiscal responsibility while assisting households.
