Trinidad and Tobago records 10 consecutive days without a murder: PM Kamla

Trinidad and Tobago has officially recorded a 10-day period without a murder, described as a “small milestone” by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in the fight against crime.

Persad-Bissessar announced through a facebook post, “For the first time in a long while, Trinidad and Tobago had a ten-day span without a single recorded murder.”

She said a murder was recorded today, ending the period, however, she urged the citizens to keep working towards achieving the anti-crime objectives.

Unfortunately, there was an incident recorded today, however, we keep working towards achieving our anti-crime objectives. This shows that the citizens of our nation do possess the will and ability to curb crime when we all work together.

Lastly, she thanked the law-abiding citizens noting, “I want to thank the law-abiding citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who supported the efforts to achieve this small milestone. We look forward to achieving greater progress in the coming months. Thank you Trinidad and Tobago, have a wonderful evening ”

A homeless man was found murdered on Friday in East Port-of-Spain. The deceased was discovered by the officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) assigned to the Duncan Street Police Post, around 1:10 p.m.

According to the reports, the officers were responding to a report from a man working on a Housing Development Corporations (HDC) apartment building along Duncan Street. He was reportedly alerted about the injured man’s presence by a female resident.

They noted that they found the man, who was unresponsive, with apparent injuries. He was immediately rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in an ambulance and was pronounced dead by the doctors.

The deceased was identified as 65-year-old Ricardo “Half Breed” Flatts.

The detectives of the Region One Homicide Bureau are continuing further investigations into the incident as the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet.
