The South Pacific country of Tuvalu is an independent island nation that is part of the British Commonwealth. It is the world's fourth-smallest country. It is situated on the west-central Pacific Ocean and is halfway between Australia and Hawaii. The country is composed by nine small coral islands spread in a chain.

Tuvalu is a Commonwealth constitutional monarchy with the British monarch as head of state (through a governor-general). The government is a parliamentary democracy with a unicameral legislature that is elected through universal adult suffrage. There are no political parties in the country, and the prime minister is chosen by the legislature. The South Pacific Forum has Tuvalu as a member. The population is estimated to be around 11,000 as per the 2021 census.
