Seven Seas Grandeur brings over 700 passengers on maiden call to Dominica

The Ministry of Tourism of Dominica extended a warm welcome to the newest vessel from Regent Seven Seas Cruises Fleet, Seven Seas Grandeur. The cruise ship made its inaugural call bringing to the island, a total of 730 visitors on Thursday.

An official Dominican delegation led by Acting Minister of Tourism, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite commemorated the ship's maiden call with a plaque exchange ceremony. The Minister extended her gratefulness to the cruise company and provided the ship’s captain with a plaque, marking the significance of the occasion.

The arrival of the luxurious and grand cruise to the Commonwealth of Dominica shows the island’s growing presence among international cruise liners. The MV Seven Seas Grandeur is a huge cruise which extends to 735 feet and comprises of 14 deluxe decks. The vessel can accommodate 746 guests in 373 elegant suites.

According to the information, the international cruise is renowned for its generous staff-to-guest ratio and accommodates 548 crew members who ensures a top tier service experience. It is to be noted that the passengers of the Seven Seas Grandeur indulged in exciting excursions across the island which included exploring the Mero Beach, Trafalgar Falls and Emerald Pool.

As the country is witnessing a thriving cruise season, the Ministry of Dominica expects a bright future for the cruise tourism industry. It is expected that this season, the island will welcome a total of 222 cruises which will bring around 360,000 passengers.

According to the Ministry, a major highlight of the 2023-2024 cruise season in Dominica is that the island will 13 inaugural calls from international cruises.

According to the reports, as of January 31, 2024, Dominica has welcomed 115 cruises which brought around 171,458 passengers. Of these visitors, around 124,293 disembarked to explore Dominica while over 70000 passengers participated in organised tours, giving a major push to the local economy.

The Government of Dominica and the Ministry of Tourism along with the Discover Dominica Authority have always shown their commitment and dedication to spearhead promotional campaigns which will showcase the island as a celebrated cruise destination. The authorities strive for an increase in cruise traffic along with boosting the local economy.
