St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins announced that the fishermen and fisherwomen have earned over fifteen million dollars (EC$15,000,000.00) in the last year. He said that this is the highest figure on record in the past ten years.

The Minister announced this significant development during a Pre-Labour Day Meeting in 2024. He said, “As Minister with responsibility for this sector, I wish to highlight the hard work and dedication of the Department of Marine Resources St.Kitts and Nevis as well as our fisherfolk who continue to work hand in hand with the Department to meet our food security goals.”

Minister Duggins said that numbers don’t lie and last year, records how that the fishermen in the country earned over $15 million. “Men lie, women lie. They say numbers don't lie,” he added.

During the meeting, he also noted that the previous administration didn’t work well for the upliftment of the country, and the Labour Party has made several advancements in every sector, including health, sports, agriculture, etc.

“We are here to uplift the country because some of them seem to have taken a different motto to the one that we took because we said country above self,” he added.

The Minister also said that last year, he worked on a Creative Arts Center and brought it to St Kitts and Nevis, which was one of the biggest and the best in the Caribbean.

This shows that food security in St Kitts and Nevis is thriving because of the vital contributions of fishermen. This remarkable progress shows the effective leadership and strategic guidance in the Agriculture and Fisheries sectors in St Kitts and Nevis. Earlier, Samal Duggins also said that he is committed to enhance food security in the country and said that it is not a choice but a necessity. He has also taken several steps to achieve the 25 by 25 agenda of CARICOM which aims to reduce the food imports by 25 percent by 2025.

He said that the A team continues to work tirelessly, not for themselves but for the people who are the heartbeat of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party.
