House Democrats began their first day of evidence in former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial with shocking footage of the US Capitol riot.

It thumped a chord with Senate Jurors, some of whom almost avoided the mob.

Videos of the siege have been traveling since the day of the riot. Still, the graphic compilation amounted to a whole narrative, a moment-by-moment retelling of one of the nation's most dangerous days.

In addition to the evident danger, it gave fresh details on the attackers, scenes of police strength, and cries of distress.

And it showed just how close the roots began to a potential breakdown in its seat of power as Congress was certifying Trump's choice defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.

Democrats aired never-before-seen soundness footage from inside the Capitol to reconstruct the siege for senators that showed the attack unfolding.

Their presentation added a chilling video of the rioters rampaging into the construction and audio of distressed police officers who tried to keep them out.

The presentation also showed the dangerous moments when lawmakers and others, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former vice president Mike Pence, were hurried to safety; bodycam footage of an administrator being beaten; the sounds of crunching, shattering glass; profane screams and violent threats; and cries as the rioters ran into the building, some carrying riot shields, and weapons.

House impeachment directors wove the security footage together with graphics that adorned on an above map of the US Capitol building where lawmakers were and how close they were to the rioters.
