Dominica: PM Skerrit shared update on rehabilitation project of Stevens Primary School

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has shared an update on the rehabilitation project of the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary School in Marigot. PM Skerrit informed that the project is about to complete, and the residents can use the newly constructed school in a few weeks.

The Prime Minister informed that the project was worth USD 2.5 million and was funded by the Government of Canada through Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Dominica.

“The rehabilitation of the Wills Strathmore Stevens Primary School in Marigot is near completion. The over 2.5 million dollar project is funded by the Government of Canada through the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Dominica,” PM Skerrit notified.

In regards to development work performed at the school premises, he stated that new roofs, main classroom block, library, computer room, auditorium, kitchen, washrooms were reconstructed to provide a more healthy, safe and refined place to learn for the youth of the Caribbean country.

“The works included the installation of new roofs and ceilings; reconstruction of the main classroom block, library/computer lab, auditorium, guidance counselling room, kitchen, cafeteria and washrooms; and construction of a new Early Childhood Facility and administrative block,” Prime Minister mentioned.

PM Skerrit has been working towards the development and rehabilitation of various roads medical as well as educational institutes across Dominica.

Just a week ago, on February 26, Prime Minister shared details about his tour to St Joseph Constituency. He updated about the completion of the $8.9 mil Hillsborough Bridge in Layou and stated that now it is open to vehicular traffic.

“I toured parts of the St. Joseph Constituency, accompanied by Parliamentary Representative Dr Adis King, Minister for Public Works, Digital Economy, Cassanni Laville and Minister for Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Kent Edwards.

The $8.9 mil Hillsborough Bridge in Layou is complete and now open to vehicular traffic.

I commend the contractors, Offshore Civil and Marine Inc., a local firm, for competent work on the project,” PM Skerrit stated.

He further informed about the benefits of the newly constructed bridge and mentioned, “Work is progressing rapidly on 3.8-kilometre Layou Valley Road project, which would be stretching from Hillsborough Bridge to Yorke Valley Bridge, improving access for farmers and commuters alike.”

He further shared the bit update on the new Health Wellness Centre, to be constructed in the constituency. “In St. Joseph, I looked at proposed site for a new Health and Wellness Center. Construction is begun by mid of this year. The St. Joseph basketball court would be rehabilitated by the government and assist residents of Layou in developing the beachfront as an area for economic activity,” Prime Minister informed.

For now, Prime Minister Skerrit is attending the 33rd Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Caribbean Community CARICOM in Belize. There he has been accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Dr Kenneth Darroux.

The leaders of Dominica would concentrate on the discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and recommendations would be shared on the expedite recovery of the regional economies, advancing the CARICOM Single Market and Economy to help build a more resilient community; as well as advancing the CARICOM Agri-Food Systems Agency.
