More than 50 killed in Kentucky's worst ever tornadoes

The governor of the United States state of Kentucky has issued a warning after it was reported that more than 50 people were killed by tornadoes overnight.

As a result of what he described as the worst tornadoes in the state's history, Andy Beshear predicted that number could rise to as many as 100.

As he put it, the figure was "probably closer to somewhere between 70 and 100, which is absolutely devastating." Tornadoes are wreaking havoc across several states in the United States, with employees at an Amazon warehouse in Illinois being trapped.

According to the New York Times, the tornado struck a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky, where more than 100 people were inside at the time.

According to Mr Beshear, "we believe we will lose at least dozens of those individuals."

The Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, in the southern Illinois town of Edwardsville, was damaged by a tornado on Friday night, according to the authorities.

He also described how two children were reported missing during a tornado but were later discovered in a bathtub that had been dragged outside by the force of the wind and sunk into the ground.

According to him, there were two children who went missing in the Barnsley area, and they were discovered in a bathtub rather than where the house had been standing at the time.

According to the Associated Press, one person was killed, and 20 people were trapped inside a nursing home in Arkansas after it partially collapsed. Craighead county judge Marvin Day confirmed the incident.

He added that some residents had taken refuge in the basement as the tornado approached and that the building had been cleared about 90 minutes later. However, he said that searches are still ongoing.

Tornado warnings have been released by the National Weather Service in the United States for areas in states such as Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois.
