Jamaica confirms death of second COVID-19 patient; cases up to 38

The Ministry of Health and Wellness says a second COVID-19 affected person has died.

In an information release, the ministry said it was recommended on Tuesday afternoon of the demise of one of the recovering patients at  University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).

"Reports are that the affected person was observed unresponsive and was cited for having had a cardiac arrest. Resuscitation measures had been unsuccessful," said the ministry in a release.

In the meantime, the ministry additionally reported new tremendous COVID-19 results, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 38.

The ministry said the two results have been among nine received last evening from the National Influenza Centre; the other seven being negative.

The new cases are a 48-year-old female from St Elizabeth with a travel history from Boston and Atlanta in the United States, who arrived within the island on March 24; and a 13-year-antique male from Kingston & St Andrew, whose mode of transmission is under investigation.

There are 24 imported cases, eleven import-associated and three instances are under investigation, the ministry stated.

The ministry also introduced that a second COVID-19 affected person has recovered from COVID-19 and released from the hospital.
