Jamaica: Massive fire erupts at business near Oxford Terrace in St Andrew

Jamaica: A major fire broke out at a business establishment, Advanced Integrated System, located near Oxford Terrace in St Andrew on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) Superintendent Horace Thomas, the department was alerted about the incident at around 2:37 pm and sent four units to the location. Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control at the establishment.

Thomas said that the firefighters found the fire was confined to the rooftop of the building, especially the gym section. “When the brigade arrived, we observed fire confined to the rooftop of the building, and it was confined to the gym section,” he said.

Twenty-five people were evacuated from the building and were inquired about its origin. No injuries or casualties have been reported.

The JFB has opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. They are monitoring CCTV footage and recording witness statements.

Locals are sharing their sympathies with the owners of the establishment who suffered a great loss due to the fire. One individual commented, “Hope the fire was not intentional and happened unexpectedly. The police should investigate this in-depthly.”

Another person said, “Investigators should not rule out arson yet it could be targeted to someone. Thankfully no one got hurt.”
