St. Kitts and Nevis marks milestone with signing of contract for National Hospital Project

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has achieved a historic milestone as they sealed the contract for the latest National Hospital Project. This climate smart hospital is being built in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

While announcing the development on his official Facebook account, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew extended his deepest gratitude to the Government of Taiwan for their steadfast collaboration and support.

He also expressed his appreciation to the OECC – Overseas Engineering and Construction Company for their significant role in this huge endeavor.

“We are embarking on a journey to build not just a hospital but a beacon of hope and healing for our nation,” outlined the PM.

He noted that last week, the country witnessed the historic sealing of the contract for the new National Hospital Project. The contract was signed with the Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC), Hsiao Yun Yeh (James). The OECC is one of the leading construction companies in Taiwan.

PM Drew said that with this contract, St. Kitts and Nevis has embarked on a journey that shows progress, resilience and a steadfast commitment to the wellbeing of all the citizens, residents and visitors.

He added that since a long time, the need for a climate smart hospital has been apparent and the current healthcare infrastructure, while commendable, is not equipped to withstand challenges posed by climate change.

The Prime Minister further noted that with the contract now signed, his administration has turned the page in history because the team is committed to a vision of healthcare that is resilient, adaptable as well as compassionate.

Dr. Drew also added that as the country is looking forward to the construction of the new hospital, he said that its name will remain Jane France General Hospital. “What we are seeking to establish in this zone is a medical city, a health city,” he further noted.

Moreover, PM Terrance Drew said it is envisaged that there will be UMHS, this major hospital, along with a research lab and other private health care facilities to really help with the country’s vision in creating a city that can serve not only the people, but the surrounding countries, the islands and visitors alike.
