The Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) had an inaugural ceremony to mark the start of redevelopment works in a specific section of the southern region. The project is expected to commence by the first quarter of 2025.

As part of several other revitalization initiatives to improve WASCO’s water supply efficiency, the Patience Water Supply Redevelopment Project is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2025 and run for an estimated 12 months. The project was envisioned in December of 2022 and had its funding approved by Parliament in November of 2023. The project includes laying over 22km of pipeline from Piton River in Micoud to the 150,000-gallon storage tank at Lombard, Micoud. Complimenting aspects of the project include the construction of a pumping station, rubble walled intake, raw water pumping main, water treatment plant and a water storage tank. Once finished, the project will positively impact consumers in the community of Mon Repos and Environs. Funding for the project will be made available under the Caribbean Development Fund, and the Government of Saint Lucia to finance the project with the secured amounts being USD 1.4 million and USD 63,500. The official ceremony took place yesterday, on March 6th at 2:30 PM in the community of Lombard, Mon Repos. The ceremony took place this far in advance to connect and explain to the residents the details of the planned improvements. CEO of WASCO, Zilta George-Leslie stated “The intended works will provide a more efficient water supply to residents of Micoud (north) upon completion of the pipe connections from the Lumbard Storage Tank.”

She goes on to say “Most importantly, the diversion of the pipeline and general work site will not affect the people of Patience during the construction period. However, WASCO personnel will consult with residents regarding any potential interruptions due to line connections as the project progresses.”

She concludes by saying “When completed, this new infrastructure will enhance this community and its environs significantly, and this is what it's all about. We have worked closely with the residents of Patience to expand our knowledge of pertinent issues within the local area and to implement their recommendations in the project's development. We look forward to seeing the water supply system up and running in the year 2025.”
