The Annual General Meeting of Cricket West Indies was held in Antigua last Saturday where CWI President Dr Kishore Shallow presented his opinions regarding the reforms derived from the Wehby Report.
The report was prepared by an Independent Task Force headed by Senator Don Wehby, assisted by other officials. The report was 36 pages long and included expert consultation from experts of the game in West Indies as well as those involved in the global game.
Dr. Shallow presented various resolutions in the governmental reform report. But despite his discussions regarding the resolutions and seeking support for the same, some of the resolutions were not able to get majority support in the meeting and subsequently did not get passed. Even after his articles were not passed by an absolute majority, he seemed optimistic about CWI and its future.
He stated that while its disappointing for him that few of his resolutions could not gain majority support, he still remains committed to ensuring that CWI Governance structure remains at its best and most efficient state. He said that he will return to his stakeholders to sensitize and advocate further for adapting modern corporate practices. He further added that he and his allies have engaged in thorough debates to formulate these resolutions, and all of this has been done to strengthen and improve the governance structure of CWI. He stressed that he will continue putting in efforts to bring these reforms into play and use them for the betterment of West Indies Cricket.
The Annual General Meeting was attended by stakeholders from various Caribbean countries like Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands. In front of all the shareholders, Shallow reassured the meeting about his intentions to strengthen the CWI, hence making continuous and deliberate efforts to do so.
It will be interesting to see what reforms will actually take place in CWI and how beneficial it proves to be for the team and sport.
