Local Pastor, Jack Leatham, has declared a call to other spiritual leaders in Dominica to “get practical’ in the new year ahead.

Leatham, along with his service members who recently marked 40 years of giving back to the city and those in need, said in an interview that many of the holy figures are not honouring biblical principle when it arrives in assisting.

“They don’t really like to hear me saying that, but I am on the radio every Monday night 6- 8, and I say something which makes them mad, and I don’t see this one as an issue because it is very true. We want our leaders to get practical. Do something in every community,” he stated.

The religious leader admits that it is difficult to brighten the whole world but states that every church leader can brighten the corner where they are and start by helping their neighbours.

“At my church, every church member is an ambassador. If you can stay outside your window and you can see homes that are your constituency, therefore, we say to every church member to get involved. What happens in Pichlein can happen across the island. Just get working. Look at the child, look at the neighbour. If there is an elderly living next to you, that’s your responsibility, particularly if you’re calling the name of Jesus,” Leatham insisted.

He is of the view that there are a lot of mission leaders in Dominica who only “talk the talk, but they never walk the walk and do what’s needed.”

The pastor noted that anytime a thorough leader accepts the calling, one of their primary roles is to lend support.

He says, he is, therefore, in the new year, strongly advancing to all leaders, irrespective of their denomination, to do something in their communities to assist those in need.

Leatham spoke to media during an exercise which was ordered recently by a number of charitable organizations in Dominica, including his church, to bring Christmas cheer to the less fortunate in Roseau.
