St Kitts and Nevis Labour party have launched a "Labour for Love" initiative to assist the vulnerable and elderly people of the country.

St Kitts and Nevis Labour party have launched a "Labour of Love" initiative to assist the vulnerable and elderly people of the country. The announcement was made on the party's official Facebook page. Former Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Denzil Llywellyn Douglas also applauded the initiative of "St Kitts Young Labour." He wrote on his Facebook, "A Labour of Love. Congratulations to our innovative and exceptional young people." As per St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, "Labour of Love" is a community outreach program geared towards assisting older persons in the communities.

The program is also designed to assist some unemployed young people. As per the Young Labour Unit, the program will support a few people across the island through grocery assistance, home improvement, and other needs as identified by each person.

The first beneficiary of the initiative is a 74-year-old male from Sandy Point who was aided with a food package.

"He is warm and animated and entertained us with jokes and a brief history of his life and the area. We’d like to do more for him." added Young Labour on its Facebook page.

The Young Labour also invited people to make financial or other donations by messaging their Facebook page. People can also reach out to our secretary, Karis Caines, at 663-3509. "We also need volunteers. Message your name and number to our page if you’d like to participate in this program." added the party's officials on their Facebook.

St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party had also distributed care packages during the lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The party had distributed essential goods, including groceries, to the vulnerable, elderly, and single mothers of St Kitts.

The assistance was done due to the severe financial crisis caused by the lockdown to reduce the rising contamination of the coronavirus.
