St. Kitts and Nevis: An addition in the form of 20 vines in bloom to the Vanilla farm of Nevis, a sister island to St. Kitts speaks of the efforts and hard work done by Gina Empson. Such a bloom has added grace to the farm.
“It’s proof that our hard work over the past months has paid off, we’re excited to hand-pollinate these delicate beauties early in the day,” mentioned Vanilla Paradise Nevis.
The magical blossoming of the vanilla orchid flowers is the signal to positive outcome that would mark a significant change in the agricultural growth of St. Kitts and Nevis. The vanilla plants require to be three to four years old before they are able to produce beans, this is how the early flowering promises of positive results in the coming times.
In the beginning of this month, the mini harvest of vanilla beans marked a huge milestone for the first vanilla farm. This marked a significant step taken towards the journey of sustainable and organic cultivation.
As Nevis is on its way to diversify its agriculture sector, the vanilla crop would be proven a successful one in the diversification. Considerably, Gina Empson is the first investor to grow Vanilla in Nevis. Last year in October, on this even the premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley mentioned, “As Nevis seeks to diversify the local economy and stimulate growth in the agricultural sector, some interesting developments are happening. One investor is growing vanilla, which we hope to become an export crop.” Gina Empson, as well shared the virtual look back from the 2023 where the crop is grown on a huge land. At the Vanilla Paradise, 800 indigenous tree posts have been reproduced by building three shade houses under which these would hold the precious orchids. And, the blooming of this time has offered immense beauty and peace to through the hand-pollination of delicate beauties. To this as well, the visual glimpse has been shared by the founder which demonstrates it as bud to bean and the beauty discovered is worth to be witnessed.Latest
