An advocate of reparations for slavery. Professor Verene Shepherd, is the Keynote Speaker at the 18th Annual New Year's Gala hosted by The Right Hon. Dr Denzil L. Douglas, the distinguished Leader of the Opposition and of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

According to organisers, Professor Shepherd will speak at the gala event in the Grand Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino on Friday, 4th January 2019 at 7.p.m.

Born in 1951, Professor Shepherd is a Jamaican academic who is a professor of social history at the University of the West Indies in Mona.

Shepherd has also held several positions within the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
