St Kitts and Nevis always had close relations. In general, St Kitts and Nevis support India's position in international forums. Not only that, but India also assisted the Caribbean country by facilitating free Oxford Astrazeneca vaccines manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). St Kitts & Nevis also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with India to enhance Foreign Office Consultations' mechanism in July 2007. As India is a part of the Commonwealth, its citizens do not need a visa to visit St Kitts and Nevis. As per reports, more than 250 members of the Indian community are engaged in small or large businesses in St Kitts and Nevis. Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris had also congratulated his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi when his country successfully vaccinated 1 billion people against COVID-19. St Kitts and Nevis- India relationship goes back to the 19th century when both countries were British colonies. The first Indians in St Kitts came on 3 June 1861 on the Dartmouth ship, which departed from Calcutta on 26 February 1861 with 361 Indians on board. Between 2015 and 2016, India shipped $2.20 million worth of goods to St Kitts and Nevis and imported $160,000.
