Cuba awards 13 scholarships to St Lucia students
Programme is now more than 45 years old
The Cuban embassy in St Lucia has announced 13 scholarships for St Lucian students across a number of medical and scientific disciplines.
As part of the Cuba International Scholarship Plan for 2017, young people taking part have signed a code of ethics in the Cuban Study Centers and received their scholarship files.
Medicine, clinical bioanalysis, imaging and medical radiophysics, radiology, veterinary medicine, general surgery, and gynecology and obstetrics are all being studied as part of the programme.
Jorge Soberon, the Cuban ambassador to St Lucia, urged all the students to make the most of the opportunity, and hoped they would complete their studies with success.
45 years of education
He also thanked Cuba for offered the scholarships to the island, and acknowledged the support of officials in St Lucia.
Cuba has maintained their scholarship programme for more than 45 years, with over 500 St Lucians benefitting.
And since it began, Cuba has financed the training of almost 74,000 foreign students from 159 countries. More than 700 Caribbean students are studying in Cuba today.
