After Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley sent out a blunt message to Nevisians to persuade them for taking the COVID-19 vaccine, many took it to the comment sections to target him, attempting to make a fuss out of nothing.
Brantley again took it to Facebook to express his view on the criticism that some people have been giving on his earlier statement. He stated that many constitutional experts popped up to chatter about his message to Nevisians.
Brantley stated that he does not want to engage in a debate about his Cabinet’s position. He said the people of Nevis elected him as their Premier to look out for their best interests and his success or failure depends exclusively on the general public and the will of God.
"I shall not be deterred by anyone in seeking the best interest of the people of Nevis! If you agree that Nevis is worth standing up for, then post the hashtag #IStandWithNevis. It’s time for us to stand tall together!! My name is Mark Brantley, son of Vicki and Irving, born in Henley Part and raised in Brown Hill, and I approve this message!!" stated Mark Brantley.
Soon after Mark Brantley's post went up on Facebook, a new campaign started across the island with the hashtags "I stand with Nevis".
Some right-wing individuals are after the government for forcing the general public to take the COVID-19 vaccine. People are blaming the administration for overlooking the concerns of the public and imposing the vaccines on them. A group of people believe that it is to their fundamental constitutional rights that taking a vaccine is their choice, and the government must not force the public.
St Kitts and Nevis is currently under lockdown after a cluster of new coronavirus patients were discovered. The new restrictions announced by the Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris are expected to last till Saturday 26 June 2021.
