Fresh out of prison, Brazil's Lula pledges 'to make life 'hell' for Bolsonaro's gov't

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a former Brazilian President, pledged to rally against incumbent Jair Bolsonaro's far-right government and authorities he accuses of unjustly imprisoning him. Lula said he would make their lives hell.

While addressing a conference of the leftist Workers' Party Lula said he was willing to fight for the nation now than in any other moment, following his release from prison.

He said I feel much stronger today than the day I surrendered to the Federal police. Lula, the 74-year-old spent almost 19 months behind bars due to a corruption conviction.

Adding to his statement, former Union Leader said you would see me travelling around not only making their lives hell but also defending the Brazilian people who are experiencing the things they don't deserve.

On November 8 Lula was ordered free following a Supreme Court ruling which overturned court's opinion three years ago.

In the year 2018, Lula was handed a nine-year sentence after he was guilty of receiving bribes, in return for public contracts from construction companies. Lula is also facing several other corruption charges.

However, he could be locked up again if he loses his appeals in either conviction. The cases may continue winding through the courts for years.
