The Inland Revenue Department will be extending its e-service platform to include e-Driver and Motor Vehicle registration licensing. St Kitts and Nevis is the first country in the OECS region to offer such an innovative product and only the third country in the entire CARICOM region with Jamaica and Bahamas being the other two countries, says Lead Officer for the initiative, Oleah Prentice.
“Driver's license holders and vehicle owners have the ability to complete renewal of their driver's license, registration and licensing of new vehicles and renewal of vehicle license at their convenience and from the comfort of their home or office or on the go,” said Ms. Prentice.
She noted that this initiative was undertaken by the government of St Kitts and Nevis to make doing business in the Federation both convenient and easy.
“The Inland Revenue Department has taken on board the Honourable Prime Minister's strategic vision to use information technology to improve the delivery of the services offered to the citizens of the Federation,” said the lead officer.
She stated that persons will no longer have to wait in long lines especially older persons.
“We recognize that with advancement in technology and with the desire to learn our elders have become tech-savvy and now have the opportunity to complete the process online,” she said. “They will not have the hustle of queues or busy office, but can complete the process from the comfort of their homes and will only have to visit the office to collect the decal.”
Ms. Prentice said that this e-Service will improve the efficiency of the services that the Inland Revenue Department offers to its customers. She added that if it is not convenient to visit the department during regular working hours it gives customers access to the department’s services outside of regular working hours.
When launched on Friday persons can register at www.sknird.com for the e-Driver and Vehicle license services. They can also visit the office at the John Gumbs building on the Bay Road.
When using the e-Services persons are asked to complete the form, upload the necessary documents, pay online and collect the decal and driver’s license at the office. This is a 24 hour processing period.
Even though the e-Service will be launched on, Friday, July 26th, 2019 for vehicle registration and licensing, e-Services has been enabled for a number of years. Taxes can also be filed and paid using the online portal. Some examples of taxes that can be paid online are Value Added Tax (VAT), Unincorporated Business Tax, Corporate Income Tax and Property Tax.
