As the InterCaribbean Airways flight faced a technical issue last week, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, has asked the airline to ensure their maintenance is up to par for the safety of passengers.
According to the reports, the Flight 713 of InterCaribbean flying from Dominica to Barbados encountered a technical issue shortly after take off, resulting in the flight to return to the Douglas Charles Airport. Following the incident, the airline officials confirmed that the flight experienced a precautionary shutdown of one of its engines because of some technical problem but the skilled pilot managed to safely land the plane to Dominica with the passengers being accommodated on another flight.Just over a month ago, a similar incident took place in Antigua where the InterCaribbean plane faced an engine failure during take off.
PM Browne said that the issue has been repeating quite frequently and the airline must ensure that all of their flights are updated and maintained to ensure passengers’ safety.
While speaking at a local radio show, the Prime Minister noted that it is just too frequent and undermining the confidence of flying with the airline. He said that when such mechanical issues are being repeated, the airline must get its act together. He further added that it almost signals that there is an issue with the airline’s maintenance, and the officials should know that this is very important.
In addition to this, PM Gaston Browne expressed his relief that no harm was done and that no fatalities or casualties were reported because of the recent engine failure.
He asked the airline to take immediate action and solve all these issues to prevent them from happening in the near future.
Meanwhile, the InterCaribbean said that after taking off from Dominica, the pilot detected some error just few minutes after taking off following which he landed the plane again in Marigot with the emergency services on standby as the flight landed safely. It is to be noted that the InterCaribbean Airways is one of the major carries in the Caribbean and provides its services to almost every country in the region. This makes it significant for the airline to take necessary steps in ensuring the top most maintenance of their planes to make travellers confident in travelling with it.
