Earthquake hits parts of Jamaica leaving citizens concerned
As parts of Jamaica were hit by an earthquake on Wednesday at around 8:00 pm, residents expressed their own experiences of having felt earthquake tremors.

Jamaica: As parts of Jamaica were hit by an earthquake on Wednesday at around 8:00 pm, residents expressed their own experiences of having felt earthquake tremors.
There has been no official report revealed for the same, however, it is believed that it had a size of 4.3 magnitude. As per people’s expression, at some parts, there were the parts where people felt nothing of it.
Although, in Port Antonio, Portland, it hit hard as mentioned by one of the netizens Tamali Baugh. A woman from Kingston as well mentioned, “yes yes felt it and I didn’t realize it was an earthquake, but my kitchen floor moved under my feet for an instant.”
Moreover, a woman from Manchester also said she felt the shake in her area. However, residents from Old Harbour and Mandeville did not feel it.
One of the citizens expressed, “ Repent Jamaica God is warning us.”
There is no doubt that small earthquakes are common in Jamaica. But, disasters never come with an invitation and are unpredictable. And, the country has got an alert signal as it can give a great hit anytime to the country. As per the records, it has been pointed that Jamaica may experience up to two hundred felt earthquakes in a year.
In October 2023, the country was hit hard with a 5.4 magnitude earthquake that prompted people to flee buildings amid heavy shaking. As per the reports by the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was located about two miles west-northwest of Hope Bay.
The island experienced major panic due to this. The situations in the country were so threatening as the suddenly the lights flickered off and a stringer shake left people in a panic stage.
One of the most devastating earthquakes occurred in 1692 where a portion of the town was sinked into the sea. In 1907 as well, Kingston, a capital of Jamaica, got hit by it which took the lives of over 1000 people.
