Strong winds damage 15 homes in Guyana’s Region Seven, CDC launches emergency response

Guyana: Fifteen homes have been damaged in Arau, Region Seven, Guyana, due to strong winds, affecting the locality. The preliminary information provided by the village Toshao has revealed the condition, noting that the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is currently conducting a multi-agency response.

The damage has majorly impacted the roofs and other parts of residential properties. However, the local authorities stated that the information regarding aftermath conditions could change as the evaluation continues.

The actions under the multi-agency response launched by CDC to assess the effect on households and nearby infrastructure involves the Guyana Defense Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF), Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the leaders of the Araua village.

The expert team is continuously working on ground to measure the damage extent and prioritise the urgent requirements for the affected locals.Workforce and essential supplies have been mobilised by the GDF to support the assistance and emergency requirements.

Local and regional authorities are consistently providing information to the relief forces from the affected community. In a rapid response measure, the CDC is establishing emergency shelter equipment for residents affected with damaged houses and no shelter.
