'This crap isn't Gospel music in Jamaica,' Netizens react to American Kirk Franklin's performance
Jamaica: The Grammy award winner and American gospel singer Kirk Franklin faced huge criticism following his performance at the Fun In The Son gospel festival in Jamaica. The singer who returned after ten years to the island nation came with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm to do a lot but somehow failed to deliver what was expected of him. The highly anticipated performance took an unexpected turn as Franklin failed to meet the expectations of the audience, with some even saying, 'This crap is definitely not Gospel music in Jamaica'.

The famous Fun In The Son event was held on Saturday at the National Stadium in St Andrew. Franklin was set to close the 2024 staging of the exciting festival, but it went wrong as people felt he had failed as a gospel singer.

One of the primary reasons for people's disappointment was the American's singer choice of attire with people saying that he dressed up like he is going to the gym. The singer got on the stage while wearing a beige coloured sandos which he paired with white shorts.

A social media user named Kayan Kadres also mocked him by saying, "This looks like a basketball player to me. Not one soul can be saved in this mess."

A user named Worrell Watson expressed his anger and said, "Is this the way for one to be attired to perform at a Gospel Concert? I rest my case."

In spite of his reputation as a prominent gospel artist, Kirk Franklin failed to meet the expectations of people not just with the way he performed but also with the way he carried himself which makes it necessary to understand the audience ahead of the performance.

Although the singer and rapper took the energy to new heights during the concert as he was seen showing exceptional energy with a lot of running and jumping all over the stage, people left the venue with huge disappointment.

Even during Franklin's performance, a user named Patricia took to Facebook and said, "He's over doing it. I mean the pressure is on. He fully well knows how critical we can be. I don't think this performance will leave a positive impression for many." This opinion of hers turned out to be true.

A user also addressed the organizers of the concert and warned them of ever bringing Kirk back again. He said, "FUN IN THE SON promoters, get your act together. We don't need this mess again. Get anointed singers. KIRK is no longer popular over here in the USA and Jamaica. Take him up for this mass parade on stage."

Meanwhile, another user named Lelia Graham said, "I could not be in my right mind to watch these so-called gospel artists. They have become a laughing stock."

"They should have a dress code for this event. So many of the overseas "performers" just draw on anything for our events. Fun in the Son is one of our premier gospel shows, and the truth is those same folks don't dress like that for the premier shows in America," said another user, Franklyn.
