St Lucia: The travel destination welcomed around five (5) cruise ships to Port Castries on March 1, 2022.
The St Lucian Government stated that it is a right step towards the revitalization of this sector. The sector was reintroduced in June 2021 and it is for the first time that five ships have landed at the Port Castries.“Destination Saint Lucia welcomed five (5) cruise ships to Port Castries today. It was a glorious sight and a step in the right direction in the revitalization of the sector. Since the reintroduction of cruise in June 2021, this is the first time Port Castries has welcomed five vessels simultaneously,” the government of St Lucia stated.
Earlier, the government of St Lucia announced that the travel destination has witnessed record-breaking stay-over arrivals in 2021. A total of 199,347 people have arrived in the previous year.
The nation surpassed the possible projections, in 2021, set by the St Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) by around 12 percent. St Lucia achieved this record-breaking stay-over following the continuous efforts by the Government and Ministry of Tourism of St Lucia.
As per the statics shared by the St Lucian government, the travel destination has enjoyed around 30,000 visitors; by the end of December 2021.
In the early-February, the minister of tourism Dr Ernest Hillarie stated that the tourism sector accounts more than 22 percent of the St Lucia’s Gross Domestic Product and added that it is important for the economy of St Lucia.
At that time, Hillarie assured that the tourism of St Lucia has been flourishing as the government continuously responded to the uncertainty of the marketplace with clear and constant communications to our stakeholders, the travel trade, and our visitors, following the crucial times of COVID-19.He further told that St Lucia welcomed around 52 percent more visitors than in 2020, contributing 76 percent from the United States.
