Phase 2, GTTCI construction commences in Guyana, marks step towards tech era
Guyana: The construction of phase two of the Guyana Technical Training College (GTTCI) has commenced in Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice. Such a progress in the country is the mark of better leadership of the President of the country, Irfaan Ali. The phase two of GTTCI will involve building the technologically advanced, multi-disciplinary main campus. This will have the capacity to accommodate 150 students and include administrative offices with all necessary facilities. Considerably, the first phase of the project included the Facility Simulator (Factor). This was commissioned in February. There has been an investment of over US$100 Million, the project has been signed in collaboration with ExxonMobil. Once the college is fully constructed, it will be designed to facilitate:
  • Oil and gas training
  • Hospitality and Tourism Institute
  • Port Mourant Training College
All the three are funded by varios of the organizations as oil and gas training is funded by ExxonMobil, Hospitality and Tourism institute is funded  by the government of the country in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). The Port Mourant Training College is funded by the GuySuCo and the ministry of agriculture. As the first stage of construction was commissioned in February, around US$14 million was invested. This would foster hands-on training for the students to work directly on the floating production storage and offloading vessels.  Significantly, there has been introduced three tracks for this, where Track 1 includes oil and gas training. This will offer diplomas in mechanical, electrical, process and operations related to oil. Other two tracks are for hospitality and tourism institute and Port Mourant Training college respectively. Such an initiative by the government commits their responsibility towards fostering the development in the country, This not only would give rise to the education sector of the country but also would lead the country towards the path of overall growth.
