Prime Minister Harris prefers to operate a secret society: Dr Denzil Douglas

Dr Denzil Douglas stated that he encouraged the Harris administration to collaborate with the opposition in the fight against COVID-19, but Prime Minister has flatly refused.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Former Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and opposition leader Dr. Denzil Llyewen Douglas released a statement and blamed the Team Unity government for not uniting with the opposition to tackle the severe pandemic crisis.  He stated being a medical doctor, he has worked in managing the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the region, and likewise, he is capable of giving medical assistance to the government of St Kitts and Nevis.  "We have encouraged the Harris administration to collaborate with the opposition in the fight against COVID-19, but Prime Minister has flatly refused," added Dr. Douglas. Former Prime Minister stated that on 18th February, during the meeting of the national assembly of the parliament, he demanded the government for a straightforward roll-out of the vaccine. He claimed that he was rudely interrupted and prevented from doing so.  Dr. Douglas emphasized that the government must find creative solutions between preserving their lives and maintaining livelihoods.  "Prime Minister Harris prefers to operate a secret society; he withholds critical information rather than functioning like a caring leader," added Dr. Denzil Douglas, leader of the opposition. Furthermore, Dr. Douglas stated that he invites the government to disclose the vaccination roll-out plan and sought clarification on vaccine storage. He also asked the government to share the original sources of the vaccines as he claimed it is necessary to have to scientific data based on the risks and adverse reactions to age and pre-existing medical conditions. Besides this, Dr. Douglas stated that he wants to know if it the same vaccine that PM Harris made a down payment of US$800,000 from the treasury of St Kitts and Nevis.  Former Prime Minister stated that he is interacting with hundreds of people who are fearful and anxious about the safety of the vaccine. He stated that he believes in equity and demands fair distribution of vaccines to all rich and poor without discrimination.
