Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit recently visited a site in Wesley where the International Airport will be constructed. As per reports, over 63 acres of land is being cleared to begin the construction.

Several other ministers and administrators joined the Prime Minister during the site visiting on Monday.

PM Skerrit stated that all the necessary equipment and geotechnical equipment required for surveying would be installed in a few days, as the survey lab is almost completed.

He said he is satisfied with the work at the International Airport Project site and assured the construction would change the overall economic scenario of Dominica.

Besides this, Prime Minister said that 31 homes are also under construction for people who gave up their lands for the International Airport. He said all people were fairly compensated as per their requirements.

Furthermore, the prime minister stated that the government continues to promote local talent, and many materials used in the construction are produced by local manufacturers. Hundreds of people are expected to get employment in the International Airport, both during and after construction.

International Airport is the most anticipated project in Dominica; it will be capable of handling long-haul flights. It is the most extensive and most pricey project ever to take place in the country. The construction itself will cost 800-900 million dollars. However, the government is not imposing any tax burden on its citizens; the airport is solely funded by the Citizenship by Investment Programme. Montreal Management Consultants Est (MMCE) has taken the contract of building the international airport and is expected to be complete by 2024.

Dominica is transitioning from an agriculture-based economy to a tourism-based economy, the construction of the International Airport project is highly likely to provide easy access to the country. Once the construction is complete, the country will get direct connectivity of the United States, Europe, and many other countries worldwide.
