St Lucia PM set to begin 'Meet the Workers' tour of island

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet will embark on a ‘Meet the Workers’ tour around St Lucia next month.

He will visit various government departments and agencies.

As well as being prime minister, Chastanet is also Minister for Finance, Economic Growth, Job Creation, External Affairs and the Public Service.

The first phase of the tour begins in June, during which the prime minister is expected to listen to the issues directly affecting workers at the St Jude Hospital, the Victoria Hospital, the National Insurance Corporation, the Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority and the Saint Lucia Development Bank.

The trip is also intended to give Chastanet an opportunity to evaluate the working conditions of the staff as well as share information about the direction of the government.

Chance to show appreciation

According to a press release, during the tour the PM will outline steps to facilitate job enhancement, improve productivity and ensure workers are adapting to the ever evolving work environment.

Speaking about the upcoming tour, Chastanet said that he will also take the opportunity to show appreciation to the workers and to address some serious outstanding issues.

“We must as a government recognise the contributions of the working population and show them we value their input as a partner in national development.

“I am looking forward to this tour where I get to meet people one on one and in groups and hear their concerns. It presents an ideal opportunity for us to jump start discussions on a range of issues.”

The ‘Meet the Workers’ tour is scheduled to continue throughout the rest of the year.
