Prime Minister of Dominica delivered a Christmas message to all the Dominican people across the world.
The message remained centric on how the festivities are going to be during the "new normal" caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that this year Christmas is not like all other Christmas' of a lifetime; however, the feeling of festivals remains the same in hearts.
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that unlike all other Christmas', this time the church pews are not going to be packed and even those who are going to attend mass would be physically distanced.
"The majority of worshippers will bounce elbows rather than warmly hug and embrace. Seasonal celebrations will be small, muted or conducted via technology," added Prime Minister Dr Skerrit.
Besides this, Prime Minister referred to 2020 as the year of COVID-19 Christmas and stated that everything is radically different from what everyone is accustomed.
Prime Minister emphasised that instead of lamenting these challenges, we all should learn the lessons that COVID-19 is teaching.
"COVID-19 is calling for us to create a kinder, more caring country and world. Perhaps, it should motivate us to construct a world that is more respectful of Mother Earth and the family of humanity," added PM Skerrit.
Prime Minister continued that COVID-19 is reminding that expensive gifts are not the most valuable, but the gifts of our time and attention, thoughtful gestures, given and received with kindness and love.
Delivering the Christmas message, Prime Minister Dr Skerrit stated," From my family and the family of the Dominica Labour Party, I extend to all Dominicans and their families, my wishes for a safe, blessed, peaceful and happy Christmas season and 2021 when our resilience, faith and effort allow us to rise above any circumstances, to a place of new hope and the fulfilment of the promise."
