Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit addressed Dominican’s living in St. Marteen on Saturday evening. People showcased their support by wearing red ‘Skerrit for PM’ t-shirts.
PM Dr. Skerrit gave a long one hour extempore to the Dominican diaspora in St. Marteen. During his speech, Prime Minister acknowledged the developmental goals achieved by the Dominica Labour Party in the past nineteen years.
During his address, PM said that Dominica Labour Party works with the motto of serving people and even in opposition party did efforts to improve the education in the country, not only that the party successfully helped students in attaining education in Cuba, Cyprus, and other foreign countries through various scholarships.
While speaking about politics, PM said that politics is not about files or paper but it is about loving and serving the people, and if one does not love people and doesn’t want to make sacrifices then they cannot be a leader.
The prime focus of PM’s speech remained towards the education, tourism and economic sector of the country.
“We not only created the State College, but we also built the new State College and we are funding the State College to the extent that today every child in Dominica who graduates from high school has a space at the Dominica State College.” added Skerrit.
PM Skerrit said that the government is not only creating access to education but giving the young boys and young girls the means of taking advantage of the access.
In addition to that Dr Skerrit said, “We are the only Caribbean island where you can find students have free access to community college and I keep saying to people that there is no better way of empowering poor people than by giving them education and that’s what Dominica Labour Party has been doing for Dominicans.”
International Airport in Dominica has been an issue that most of the diasporas have been concerned about and Prime Minister said he understands the concern of people and the airport should come and will be coming soon under the administration of the Dominica Labour Party.
Prime Minister asked the diaspora to come to Dominica and see the development themselves.
