Prime Minister Terrance Drew visited the JNF General Hospital in Brumaire to acknowledge and welcome a cohort of freshly appointed medical specialists. The cohort includes several specialists that JNF has never had before.

PM Drew’s tenure has been focused on and emphasizing quality accessible healthcare for the people of St Kitts & Nevis, this introduction of faculty to the JNF General Hospital is considered a new milestone in PM Drew’s ongoing list of achievements.

Several medical specialists have been welcomed to the facility for the first time ever, the list includes JNF’s first-ever endocrinologist, first-ever neurologist, three distinguished anaesthesiologists, two pediatricians, four gynecologists and three surgeons. PM Drew has also been pushing for stronger mental health care in the nation, which is why the Hospital reinstated a specialist psychologist. The hospital also appointed seven radiographers, which is the highest number the Hospital has ever recorded. The hospital has been making strides in recent months, they introduced a kidney transplant program to further the quality of life for their patients; the hospital has also recorded the most amount of equipment in the facility at once since its inception. These technologies included a new anesthesiology machine, a new fluoroscopy machine, an advanced ultrasound machine that can also perform heart ultrasounds, a new medicine cabinet, a new CT machine, additional dialysis machines and even an Electroencephalogram (EEG) machine.

Various additions and renovations have also taken place which include a refurbished morgue and foyer, heavy-duty washing machines, roof leak repairs, and the addition of air conditioners in the wards.

PM Drew frequents the JNF hospital, even visiting the pediatric, maternity, surgical, and medical wards where he personally spread gifts in the week preceding Christmas in 2023; during the same visit PM Drew announced the completion of a project concerning the aforementioned installation of air conditioners in various wards at the hospital. The project was a personal conception of PM Drew, after having spent so much time practicing medicine at the hospital he stated “Working on this ward for a long period of time, the heat had always been an issue”.

These additions made to The Joseph Nathaniel France General Hospital, the largest public hospital in the country offer air-conditioned private and semi-private rooms to patients requiring medical assistance, and the healthcare workers employed a little more comfortably, allowing them to carry out their tasks with greater due-diligence.
