New sports courts to be officially opened soon: Melissa Skerrit

Melissa Popponne Skerrit- Parliament Representative, stated that new sports courts located at the stadium's forecourt would be officially opened very soon.

She stated that the new stadium would include basketball, tennis, volleyball and netball courts with the major push in the sporting revolution.

Parliament representative also added that new sporting area would be outfitted with advanced infrastructure and best standards.

She added that it would include a digital scoreboard, LED lighting and outlets for outdoor bars.

"I am also pleased to announce that this sporting area will be outfitted with stands, digital scoreboard, LED lighting and outlets for outdoor bars. Teams, get ready to show out at the upcoming tournaments," added Melissa Skerrit on Facebook.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also asked people to take full benefits of the new sports complexes and avoid vandalism. The collective cost for these projects is estimated to be $9,426,110.

Several new sports complexes and grounds are currently under construction in Dominica. Roselyn Paul, Minister for Sports, Culture and Community Development, stated during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday that new sports capital projects will include Windsor park sports stadium phase 4- infrastructure and lighting with a cost of

$2,306,357, multi-purpose sports complex $2,500,000, covering of Massacre basketball court to cost $2,075,617, rehabilitation of Geneva playing filed, rehabilitation of Colihaut playing field $ 200,000, Windsor park sports stadium rehabilitation works $800,029, construction of multi-purpose courts Windsor Park Sports stadium forecourt $323,689,Construction of multi-purpose courts, Windsor park sports stadium forecourt (GOCD) $720,418.
