“I am ready to serve this country” says Melissa Skerrit
Dominica Labour Party launched Mrs. Melissa Skerrit as the general elections candidate for the Roseau Central constituency.

Mrs. Melissa Skerrit, Dominica Labour Party’s general elections candidate for Roseau Central gave a touching yet inspiring speech on her launch day.
Mrs. Melissa Skerrit who is also the wife of current Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit is making her politics debut by standing as parliamentary candidate for upcoming general elections that are on December 6.
She is well known for her charity and social work on the island, where she helps children in getting a better future and she also runs through campaigns to spread awareness about various health-related issues mainly concerning females.
During her address to Dominica nationals on Saturday evening, she said that she is inspired by her mother and father who always worked hard to make a change by helping people. She quoted “I want to be like my mother who stood with my father while looking after my brother sisters and me.”
A wife and a mother to two children, Mrs. Skerrit said that she is ready to serve the country and will continue her responsibilities to her family after getting elected as a parliamentary representative from Roseau Central.
As per Mrs. Melissa Skerrit, her major inspiration for entering into politics because of the leadership of her husband, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has inspired her and she showed gratitude to the people of Dominica, who always supported and loved her.
“People of this country are kind generous loving and good and I am overwhelmed with the support and love that I have got from the people as the wife of Prime minister.” added Mrs. Skerrit
Furthermore, she discussed to bring a change in Roseau Central constituency by building new roads, schools, clinics as well as by creating more opportunities for the youth.
The launch event which was held in Roseau had a massive gathering from all over the country. Despite the heavy downpour, people stood tall to support the Dominica Labour Party.
This event was one of the biggest candidate launch occasions organized by the Dominica Labour Party for these upcoming general elections.
Campaigning by political parties is on high as elections are announced and will hold on the 6th day of December.
