Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr. Timothy Harris announced the vaccine rollout is commencing from 22 February 2021. He stated that that country aims to immunize around 70% of its population.

The prime minister shared the information on his social media accounts and asked people to support St Kitts and Nevis' vaccine drive.

St Kitts and Nevis have already received around 2000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from Dominica, while China has also confirmed to assist the country with $600,000 to procure extra vaccine. Besides this, COVAX has pledged to deliver 21,600 doses of the vaccine by the end of 28 February 2021. As per Dr. Timothy Harris, India and some other allies of St Kitts and Nevis have also assured the island country of securing vaccine for its population.

He maintains that the country is in its fourth phase of returning to normalcy. Prime Minister stated that he wants the people to receive the vaccine.

"By taking the vaccine, you are not only protecting yourselves but also protecting those around you, those are too young or frail to take the vaccine," added Prime Minister Dr. Harris.

He emphasized that vaccine is the essential tool in the world's fight against the coronavirus.

St Kitts and Nevis is also one of the least impacted countries in the world due to the coronavirus. It was also among the very first countries in the region to close-down borders to ensure the virus remains away from the shores. It recorded zero virus-related fatalities and only 42 confirmed cases of the virus.

International travelers were allowed from October 2020 under stringent rules.

The country also conducted general elections during a state of emergency imposed to tackle the virus situation.

Prime Minister Timothy Harris maintained that the country's people were more important as he announced a $120million stimulus package, which he claims as biggest in the region.
