I paid school by washing dishes, mopping floor and serving people says PM Skerrit

Dominica Labour Party organized a town hall meeting in the Viellie Case constituency. The major focus of the meeting remained on the education and tourism industry in the country. It is to be noteworthy that Viellie Case constituency belongs to Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit.

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit shared some of his childhood stories in his address of the meeting, he said when he attended school in the long stretches of  1994,1995,1996 and 1997 government never gave a dollar to students for attaining education, “ I paid school by washing dishes, mopping floor and serving people, the challenges which I had to face to earn education I never wanted anyone else to face the same, so I decided to make education available to all by starting policies to help children attain education.”

During his address to inhabitants of constituency, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit reminded the people about the conditions of the constituency before he was elected member of parliament from the constituency, he said “Some of the road networks in the area were not even touched to repair, we have worked together to build some of the best road networks in Dominica, We together have come a long way.”

Dr. Skerrit acknowledged that education has always been his priority. He said in the year 2000 going to college was a privilege but now 55 students of Viellie Case are in-state college and they have been given an allowance of transportation, and many today have a master’s degree.

After the Hurricane Maria shook the country in the year 2017, the vast majority of the houses were crushed and numerous individuals went destitute. Government of Commonwealth of Dominica intends to build more than 6 thousand houses out of which some are already constructed and some of them are still under construction.

While speaking about this Dominica Housing Revolution, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit said that the government is into making houses because of empathetic spirit for people. He said, “For me, as the leader of government and a leader of the party I feel I have a home and I would like to see everyone have one as well.”
