Guyana: The expanding production of soya and corn in Guyana is projecting the agriculture expansion in the country. It reflects the advancements being taken forward especially in the agriculture sector. “The production of soya and corn is expanding as we work towards self-sufficiency by 2025 and regional production by the end of 2026,” mentioned the President Irfaan Ali. Through such a statement, he highlighted that the authorities are stepping towards reducing the dependence to attain self-sufficiency in agriculture that would enhance regional productivity. He has outlined that such a goal would be achieved by the end of 2026. In January this year, the government significantly kept aside the amount of $967.8 million as a budget to boost the production. This aligns towards the strengthened support by the authorities towards fostering self-reliance. Considerably, the production target for corn and soya bean production introduced is 26000 acres by the end of 2024 and 30,000 acres by the end of 2025. And, 10000 acres were already produced in 2023. This highlights the rapid progress in the expansion, directing towards the growth and development of the agriculture sector. Even, it has come forward that three additional investors will step into the market for the expanding the cultivation to 26000 acres. Last year in 2023, Guyana introduced its aim for self-sufficiency in corn and soya bean production by 2025. Significantly, the public is appreciating the developmental actions led by the authorities, one added, “Outstanding leadership corn and soya are very important in feed production.
