Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs, Family and Gender Affairs in collaboration with faith-based organizations are organizing a re-dedication of Dominica event. This event will be held on August 11, 2019, at 4:00 pm at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
The general public is invited to attend this ceremony for the re-dedication of Dominica. A dedication event for Dominica will be held after a long 15 years period. Since then, much has happened and there have been repeated calls for the re-dedication of the country especially in light of the upcoming hurricane season.
The event will be non- political and it is an invitation by the Ministry for all the Dominicans to come together in a spirit of repentance to pray for the Island. The event will hold under the theme ‘A Call to Repentance: To Love and Serve God’.
This is important here to mention that, Dominica suffered major damage during the hurricane Maria which devastated more than 85% of property in the country. As a large number of inhabitants are spiritual and have a strong belief in God, it was necessary to conduct the event in the light of this years’ hurricane season.
Following the destruction of thousands of homes, most supermarkets, and the water supply system, many of Dominica's residents were in dire need of food, water, and shelter for days. With no access to electricity or running water, and with sewage systems destroyed, fears of widespread diarrhea and dysentery arose.
Not only this, the island's agriculture, a vital source of income for many was obliterated as most trees were flattened. Meanwhile, the driving force of the economy—tourism—was expected to be scarce in the months that followed Maria.
After the hurricane, this rededication of Dominica isle was far more important for people than any other political activity as people believe in god to secure them from natural calamity.
