Cocaine due for Britain seized by officials
Reported value of the drug was over TT$700,000
Cocaine bound for the United Kingdom was seized by customs officials yesterday in El Socorro.
Officers pounced on a DHL compound yesterday afternoon to find more than 1.85kg of the drug worth TT$740,000 on the street, said police.
Customs officers and sniffer dogs were reportedly conducting routine checks when they opened a package marked for Great Britain, sent from a local address.
Inside the officers found 24 scented candles, which on closer inspection were found to contain a white powdery substance.
A test confirmed that the substance was cocaine.
This new find follows the arrest of a soldier last week, who has been charged with trafficking cocaine in scented candles.
